Whatever your passion, you can create a legacy at Marion Community Foundation with as little as $100 today—and a plan to fully fund it later.
That is the power of legacy giving.
A legacy fund allows you to establish a charitable fund now, name it for yourself, your family, or a cause you care about—or remain anonymous—and make plans for future gifts that may come after your lifetime. Often, legacy funds are set up with a will, trust, retirement account beneficiary designation, life insurance policy, or other estate-planning tool.
In other words, you don’t have to have a large amount of money today to begin creating something that can last forever. You can start with $100 and a plan for the future.
Bob & Judy Finney Family Scholarship Fund

Bob and Judy Finney began their scholarship fund at Marion Community Foundation as a legacy fund. Their “why” is twofold: helping students pursue careers in health-related fields and encouraging young professionals to make Marion home.
A fourth-generation Marion dentist, Bob spent more than 50 years practicing in the community, following in his father’s footsteps. Now, the couple has included a bequest in their will that will provide lasting support for the scholarship after their lifetimes.
The idea was inspired in part by the people around them. Many of the Finneys’ friends have established charitable funds at Marion Community Foundation, prompting the couple to think about what they wanted their own legacy to be.
The Finney scholarship will support high-achieving students pursuing careers in healthcare, nursing or medicine.
For the Finneys, the scholarship is about more than helping a student earn a degree. It is an investment in the future of the community they call home. They hope to support young people entering health professions and encourage them to build their careers close to home —to help attract and retain the next generation of professionals in Marion.
“Marion is such a great place to live,” Bob said. “The quality of life is just better here.” It is a belief shaped by a lifetime in Marion and by generations of the Finney family.
