Girls in STEMM

LEGACY Summer 2025–Education in STEMM fields—science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine—is growing in popularity, especially among female students. An increasing number of talented young women are among our scholarship recipients pursuing careers in STEMM fields.
Marion Community Foundation has more than 30 scholarship funds that support students pursing higher education in these and related fields, thanks to support from scholarship funds like the Craig Scholarship, Kannan Family Scholarship, and Freshour Family Scholarship.
Funds like the Whirlpool/OnePower STEM Scholarship focus specifically on engineering and technology. And, others, like the Bergmann Family Scholarship support STEM fields like engineering, as well as other majors like education, to honor the Bergmann children’s careers.
These funds are an important piece of the puzzle to bolster mathematical skills among students, especially as Ohio works to overcome pre-pandemic learning challenges. This strong showing of young women, encouraged by our local high schools, Marion Technical College, Tri-Rivers Career Center, and Ohio State University at Marion, demonstrates Marion’s commitment to breaking down barriers and fostering female leadership in historically underrepresented STEMM fields.
