Why give to the Founders’ Fund?
The Founders’ Fund demonstrates commitment to a cause. It was created in 2001 from the voluntary contributions of the charter members of the Foundation’s Board of Directors and continues to grow due to gifts from subsequent and current members and friends. The Founders’ Fund is a special way for us to support our own in Marion.
Each year, grants are made from the Founders’ Fund to address ever-changing, pressing, uniquely Marion needs. Our Board of Directors has great flexibility to use the Founders’ Fund to address a variety of community needs. Past grants have been awarded to:
- the Marion Palace Theatre
- Stengel-True Museum
- Marion Public Library
- LOVE, Inc.
- Marion Humane Society
- Marion Housing Assistance Program
- Harding High School’s C-Tag Program
- James H. Johnson-Charles Rudd Community Complex
- among others.
Marion Community Foundation’s Board of Directors is comprised of 15 local community leaders who volunteer their time in support of the Marion area and have a vested interest in the success of our community. Our Board members include professionals in business, finance, law, education, medicine, and other professions that make them, along with their in depth knowledge of the Marion area and its needs, keenly capable of accepting and putting to good use gifts in many forms.
We would like to thank and recognize the members of our charter Board who created this fund; they include: the late Ted Mitchell, C. Joy Kaser, James Conway, Dr. Roberto Concepcion, James Beaver, Ted McKinniss, Dr. G. Scott Drew, Gary Sims, Steve Lemke, Pam Hall, Dr. Henry Heinzmann, Roger Vanover, E. Frederick Manter, Judge Deborah Alspach, Cheryl Herbert, the late Peter Miller, Dr. James Hering, and Bill Griswold. We also wish to thank the subsequent and current Board members and friends who have helped support and grow the Founders’ Fund and the good that it does.
