Stofcheck is new Finance Manager
Marion Community Foundation’s growth has staff expansion necessary and possible, announced Jody Demo-Hodgins, Board of Directors chairperson. Ed Stofcheck, Jr. has been hired as Finance Manager.
Stofcheck will report to the Foundation’s President & CEO, Julie Prettyman, and work cooperatively with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteer committees to develop and implement the organization’s financial strategies and goals.
“The Finance Manager is essential to the financial health, stability, compliance, and growth of the Foundation,” said Prettyman. “We welcome Ed to the staff and appreciate his financial expertise and knowledge of the Marion community.”
Stofcheck is familiar to many locally, having previously served nearly a decade as the financial secretary at Emanuel Lutheran Church and, before that, managed Stofcheck Ambulance Service for 27 years. Most recently, Stofcheck worked at Center Street Community Health Center, as well as Center Street Market. He has been a volunteer, former board president, and member of the Marion Area Humane Society.
Stofcheck holds a degree from Ohio University and earned his certification as a human resources specialist from Michigan State University. He and his husband, Matt, are both graduates of Elgin High School, reside in Marion, and “usually have way too many dogs,” he said.
As Finance Manager at Marion Community Foundation, Stofcheck will be responsible for managing the comprehensive finance, funds management, and business operations, as well as office and facilities management.
According to Stofcheck, “I am excited for this awesome opportunity. I have been involved with Marion Community Foundation for many years, but from the other side. The work here is impactful and meaningful, which makes it a rewarding place to be.”
Stofcheck has large shoes to fill as he takes over for long-time bookkeeper and internal auditor Diane Mault, who has been with Marion Community Foundation since its inception in 1998. Mault has served this long tenure in a part-time, contracted role, in addition to operating her own bookkeeping and tax preparation service for the past 50 years, which she will continue to focus on, along with her husband, Richard Mault.
“Diane has been with the Foundation the longest of anyone around the office,” said Prettyman. “We have very little turnover – the average is 10+ years – so this is a big change for us. We wish Diane all the very best as she continues her first love, bookkeeping.”
Mault has served the Marion Community Foundation for 25+ years and describes the time as “one of the most enjoyable times of my life. Not only has it been a great learning experience, but working with, and meeting, so many dedicated people has been extremely rewarding.”
“It is with a sense of sadness that I end this journey,” she said, “but, I am happy that the Foundation will be in good and qualified hands with Ed and the Marion Community Foundation leadership.”
Marion Community Foundation manages more than 500 charitable endowment funds created by local donors. Established in 1998, it has become a local leader in philanthropy for Marion and the surrounding area. Its funds provide $2.5 million annually in support of a wide array of organizations and causes, including education, the environment, local history, economic development, the arts, and healthcare access, among others.
