William D. & Alice L. Young Fund

This designated fund was established in 2004 to benefit Marion’s First Church of the Brethren. Created by Beverly Young, Betty Jo Medley, and Bernard Wayne Young, the fund honors their parents and their faith.

“The Marion First Church of the Brethren has been important to our family for many generations now,” explained Bev. “Our grandparents–Raymond and Florence Young–were lifetime deacons of the church and, as such, they were very active in many functions and its stewardship to the community.”

Following in their parents’ footsteps, William was a trustee of the church and Alice a Sunday School teacher. They lived beside the church parsonage at the beginning of their marriage and had fond memories of the pastors who lived beside them.

“Their love of the Lord and the church was always very apparent to us children,” said Bev. “Our parents had a very strong faith and belief in God.”

The siblings decided, following their mother’s passing, that the best way they could memorialize and give tribute to their parents’ love and faithfulness was an endowed fund at Marion Community Foundation. Because of this fund, donations will be made to Marion First Church of the Brethren annually in the Young’s name, forever.
