Stephen J. Chaney Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Stephen J. Chaney Memorial Scholarship Fund was created at Marion Community Foundation in 2011 to make annual grants to St. Mary Grade School of Marion, Ohio. St. Mary Grade School uses the grants to provide annual tuition assistance in Stephen J. Chaney’s memory for worthy students attending St. Mary Grade School. The recipients of the tuition assistance are determined on the basis of need and scholarship.
Stephen J. Chaney was a 1964 graduate of Marion Catholic High School and a Captain in the United States Army. He was killed while on active duty during the Vietnam conflict.
Upon graduation from Marion Catholic High School, Steve was awarded a football scholarship at the University of Notre Dame under Coach Ara Parseghian. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army and became a distinguished Green Beret. After successfully completing one tour of active duty in the Vietnam conflict, Steve volunteered for a second tour of duty. It was during his second tour of duty that he was killed in combat.
