Mike & Betty Rogerson’s Charitable Fund
This designated fund was established in 2012 by Betty Rogerson (1924-2020) following the passing of her husband, Mike (1929-2010). It is designed to benefit a number of community organizations important to the couple, including: Marion Palace Theatre, American Red Cross of Marion, Marion Area Humane Society, Salvation Army, Marion Senior Center, Boys & Girls Club of Marion, and Buckeye Ridge Habitat for Humanity, as well as Betty’s alma mater, Thiel College of Greenville, Pennsylvania.
Mike was a graduate of Youngstown State College and made a career in electrical engineering. He retired from Ohio Edison and previously worked as an engineer with Penn Power in New Castle, Pennsylvania. He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He and Betty married in 1952 and were together for 58 years.
The couple moved to Marion in 1973. Mike was a member of St. Mary Church, the Knights of Columbus, Marion Country Club, and the Elks Lodge. Betty and Michael traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Ireland and Asia, and wintered in Florida.
Betty was born in Greenville (PA). In the final year of WWII, she served in the Civilian Auxiliary Forces in a maintenance battalion. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling, was active with the Artisans Guild, volunteered at the former MedCenter Hospital gift shop, and was active with Trinity Baptist Church. She especially loved Christmas and St. Patrick’s Day.
