Lo Family Scholarship Fund
The Lo Family Scholarship Fund was established in 2024 by Frank Lo, second generation owner of long-standing popular Marion restaurant House of Hunan. The Lo Family has been a part of the Marion community for almost 40 years.
Peter and Penny Lo immigrated to the United States from Taiwan in the early 1980s. Initially, they lived in New Orleans, where they welcomed their first son, Wilson. They moved to Marion and their son, Frank, was born in here in 1990. Both sons graduated from Marion City Schools, as did Frank’s wife, Jenny. Frank and Jenny married in 2023 and have two sons; she works as an RN, having completed her degree at Tri-Rivers’ School of Nursing.
The Lo Family is known for their local Chinese restaurant, House of Hunan. Peter is an amazing chef and has operated a successful business with his wife, Penny, for 30+ years. Their son, Frank, graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in hospitality management and took over the family business in 2019.
Having been involved in the foodservice industry their whole lives, the Lo family naturally love cooking and experiencing new dining establishments. They are also avid sports fans, especially of the Buckeyes, and enjoy football, basketball, track, tennis, and golf.
Peter and Penny Lo come from very large families. Peter is one of five siblings and Penny is the youngest of seven. All of their relatives live in their native country of Taiwan.
The Lo Scholarship supports students who, like them, are first generation Americans and immigrants to the United States. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident. This scholarship is open to students who have attended a high school in Marion County for at least two years and maintained a GPA or 2.5 or greater.
Special consideration is given to applicants pursuing a career in the fields of hospitality, culinary, or nursing and health care.
