Jacob R. Cannon Memorial Fund

The Jacob R. Cannon Memorial Fund was created in 2018 by Jake’s parents, Julie & Dwaine Cowan, following his untimely death in a motorcycle accident. This charitable fund strives, as did Jake, to make a difference in the lives of others and, specifically, supports students at his alma mater, Ridgedale Local Schools. Awards are designated to help individuals, at any grade level, with any need or financial hardship, as identified by Ridgedale faculty and staff.

The late Dwaine Cowan said, “In Jacob’s memory, we want to give an opportunity where there might not have been one. It is our hope that this fund will help make life a little easier, one person at a time.”

Jake, known to give the shirt off his back to help someone else, was huge–in spirit and energy, as well as physically. Full of laughter, love, and intelligence, he had a heart for children and those in need, defended the bullied, and had a great and generous heart for his fellow man.

At the time of his passing, Jake was 20 years old and working at Union Tank Car. In high school, he was a 3-sport letterman, much beloved by his classmates, many of whom were involved in creating the GoFundMe account which became this fund.

According to the Cowan’s, Jake liked to see every kid have a chance, and the purpose of this fund is to allow Jake’s generous spirit to continue.
