Harris Scholarship Fund
The Harris Scholarship Fund was created in 2017 by the LaRue United Methodist Church to honor the generosity of the late Everett (1889-1980) and Elvida (1890-1978) Harris and to support students active with the church. Everett farmed in Bowling Green Township and Elvida was a homemaker. This generous couple left funds to create this scholarship from their estate for the benefit of the youth of their church.
The LaRue United Methodist Church was established in 1895 in the Wesleyan tradition. The church had its beginnings in missionary outreach to the Wyandot Indians in the early 1800s. The LaRue congregation’s first meetings in the village were held in a barn. Today, the church is located on North High Street and holds Sunday School and worship service each Sunday. They offer a Christian preschool to the LaRue community and ministries focused on Children, Youth & Family, Worship & Music, and Missions.
In addition to being a current and active member of the LaRue Methodist Church, recipients of the Harris Scholarship will be a high school senior, graduate, or candidate for graduation from any high school in Marion County with a GPA of 2.0 or greater.
