Cheryl Oehler Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Cheryl Oehler Memorial Scholarship Fund was created in 2017 by the Elgin Alumni Association to honor Cheryl’s 13 years of teaching in the Elgin Local Schools. She passed in 2015.
A Prospect native, Cheryl was a 1972 graduate of Elgin High School and received her degree in elementary education from The Ohio State University in 1976. Cheryl taught 4th grade and kindergarten in the Elgin School District for many years. She relocated to Arizona in 1989, where she taught kindergarten for the remainder of her career. Even in retirement, she continued to teach Kindergarten through Dysart’s Smart Schools Program, as well as worked as a substitute teacher in the Nadaburg School District.
Cheryl was a lover of music, especially her Ohio State University Marching Band. Having a lovely singing voice, she made music a part of her life as well as in her classroom.
With great love for children, she wonderfully loved, nurtured, molded and educated so many children to believe they could be a success at whatever they wanted to become. No matter what race or economic background, each child left her classroom with the feeling of self-worth and importance. She, most of all, instilled the love of learning.
The Oehler Scholarship supports seniors and graduates of Elgin High School who are pursuing degrees in education or music.
