Charles A. & Sue (McCoy) Huber Scholarship Fund

Created in 2024 by Charlie and Sue Huber, this scholarship supports students from Pleasant High School with a GPA of 3.0 or greater and rank in the top 20 percent of their senior class.
Charlie and Sue (McCoy) Huber were born and raised in Marion and attended Pleasant School – where he graduated in 1965 and she in 1966.
While Charlie attended the US Coast Guard Academy, Sue attended Ohio University. They were married at St Mary’s Church in Marion in 1969.
The couple moved immediately to Corpus Christi, TX, where Charlie was assigned to a Coast Guard search and rescue cutter, and Sue completed a music education degree. In 1971, Charlie was assigned to an unaccompanied tour 400 miles above the Arctic Circle on Baffin Island, Canada, while Sue began her teaching career at Green Camp and Prospect schools. The next 17 years saw them assigned to tours in New York, Connecticut, Michigan, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania.
After retiring in 1989, Charlie worked for Mobil Oil Corp. as manager of the Crisis Preparedness Group in Pennington, NJ, and Fairfax, VA. He retired from Mobil in 2000, began his environmental consulting company, C. A. Huber, Inc., and they moved to their current home in Williamsburg, VA.
A significant opportunity came in 2010 when Charlie was called to manage the aerial dispersant operations for the Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico. These operations were a major contribution to the saving of shorelines, sea life, and wildlife from the contaminating effects of the oil.
Throughout their moves Sue found various opportunities to use her talents as a music teacher, church choir, and folk group director and as a secretary. She also composed and published original sacred songs in a book and on two recordings.
Over the years Charlie and Sue enjoyed facilitating Bible studies at their local churches. They still enjoy participating in that ministry and in assisting the local Catholic college students with music at their Masses. They are grateful for the opportunity to share some of their many blessings with students from Pleasant where they have fond memories of their administrators, teachers, classmates and friends – who were significant in helping to shape their lives and careers.
