Prettyman is Program Manager
Julie Prettyman has been selected to fill the new position of Program at Marion Community Foundation, announced Susie Brown, Chair of the Board of Trustees.
“We are pleased to welcome Julie,” said President/CEO Dean L. Jacob. “She has extensive experience in project management in both for-profit and non-profit organizations, as well as previous foundation experience.”
As Program Manager, Prettyman joins the full-time staff at MCF, bringing the professional staff to three. In her new role, she will report to MCF’s president/CEO and manage major programs and events at the Foundation. Her primary responsibilities will include management of the Foundation’s scholarship and grants programs, affiliate organizations and special events. The position was advertised in mid-December and drew more than 50 applicants.
Staff expansion had been discussed internally for the previous two years, according to past-president Brad Bebout, who worked with Jacob and the Board of Trustees to establish the new position of Program Manager.
“Recent years have shown much growth in the assets of Marion Community Foundation,” said Jacob. “As a result, our scholarship and grants programs have also grown. Brad and our outstanding Office Manager, Diana Rinesmith, have been able to run an efficient organization compared to other community foundations with similar asset size though more staff. Our growth has put a strain on that efficiency.”
“Julie’s skills will be valuable to us. She has extensive experience with project management, organization and process development, volunteer development, and strategic and business planning,” said Jacob. Prettyman has made a 20+ year career in project management-related positions for organizations such as Ohio 4-H Foundation, CT Consultants (formerly Floyd Browne Group), Goodwill, March of Dimes, and The Ohio State University at Marion. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business marketing from The Ohio State University.
Prettyman has previous experience with volunteer development, grants program management, and donor relations at the Ohio 4-H Foundation. At Ohio State Marion, Prettyman provided administrative support to the office of community relations and development, performing duties related to records management, gift processing, special event planning, and volunteer coordination. Additionally, her experience with CT Consultants included marketing, communications, database management, budgeting and office administration, as well as sales.
While the new position will have Prettyman’s focus primarily on MCF’s scholarship and grants programs, she will also help to develop the Foundation’s Legacy Society, as well as provide ongoing support to Youth Engaged in Philanthropy (YEP) and Marion Young
“I am excited about the opportunity to increase Marion Community Foundation’s impact with our donors, community partners, and scholarship and grants recipients,” said Prettyman. “The Foundation is truly a resource, a central point that can positively impact all parts of our community. My role is to make connections – with community leaders, students, parents, school administrators, and non-profit agencies and organizations.”
Prettyman and her husband, Cy, reside in the New Bloomington area.
Marion Community Foundation manages more than 170 funds with assets in excess of $40 million. Its funds support a wide array of organizations and causes, including education, the environment, local history, economic development, the arts, and healthcare access. In addition to the full-time staff of three, MCF also contracts the services of Diane Mault as bookkeeper, Lori Stevenson as public relations consultant, and Doug Lukcso of Lancaster Pollard as Chief Investment Officer. Marion Community Foundation is headed by a community-based volunteer Board of Trustees consisting of Board Chair, Susie Brown, and 14 additional trustees.
