Youth Engaged in Philanthropy Fund
Marion Community Foundation recognizes the importance of fostering philanthropy and Youth Engaged in Philanthropy was established with this purpose in mind. The group of high school students learn about and practice philanthropy. Each of the Marion County high schools has representatives.
Youth Engaged in Philanthropy has two funds at Marion Community Foundation – a grant fund and a scholarship fund – designed to give students hands-on experience and a broader perspective of philanthropy. Members are involved in the total process, giving valuable lessons in stewardship and money management, and promoting an understanding of the needs within the Marion community to a new generation.
The Youth Engaged in Philanthropy Fund enables the students to learn about grantmanship firsthand. Each year the students consider actual grant requests, interview representatives of local nonprofits, conduct a selection process, and recommend a grant award to the Foundation’s Board of Directors.
