Stewie Family Scholarship Fund
The late John Steward (1937-2021), former principal of Marion Harding High School, and his wife, Joan, created this scholarship fund at Marion Community Foundation. Designed to encourage high school graduation and college attendance, the Stewie Family Scholarship Fund designates annual awards to a second semester sophomore at Marion Harding High School, which will be paid when the student enrolls in college.
The Stewie Scholarship is earmarked for at-risk students in the upper 25 percent of the sophomore class. The student must complete his or her high school education at Harding, as well as enroll in college, in order to receive the award.
Applicants must demonstrate the academic potential necessary to succeed in college; however, the recipient must also demonstrate that he or she is “at risk.” Risk factors include the student’s home environment, attitude, behavior and unrealized talents. Special consideration is given to students who show interest or potential for a career in law enforcement, nursing, education, or hospitality management.
The Stewie Family Scholarship Fund is an incentive fund, designed to promote college attendance to younger students.
