Paul & Susan Ludwig Charitable Fund
The Paul & Susan Ludwig Charitable Fund, created in 2013, is an unrestricted fund for the benefit of the Marion area. The unrestricted designation means that, in creating the fund, the Ludwig’s grant to Marion Community Foundation’s Board of Directors the ability and discretion to make awards for any pressing community needs which the Board deems worthy and appropriate.
The late Paul (19-2023) and Susan (1934-2019) were part of the Ludwig family known in Marion for the creation of the former L&K Restaurant and Motels chain. Paul is the son of Cleo R. Ludwig, who with his business partner, Robert Kibbey, formed what became L-K Enterprises, which, in the 1940s, opened restaurants and, in the 1960s, motels, throughout Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky. Paul and his brother, Robert, owned and operated the business from 1977-1989.
