Marion Rotary Club’s William L. Young Scholarship Fund

The Marion Rotary Club William L. Young Scholarship Fund was established in 2025 It honors Bill Young and provides financial support for Marion County graduating seniors, especially those pursuing music or attending Ohio Wesleyan University, Bill’s alma mater.

Bill was a reed player at Ohio Wesleyan for four years and was inducted into the Phi Mu Alpha music honorary. He played clarinet and oboe in the Marion Concert Band and now plays with a concert band in Venice, Florida.

Tennis skills run in the family. Bill enjoys the game. His son, Geoff, is the director of tennis at Purdue, and his grandson, an All American player at the University of Michigan, plays professionally.

Rotary started in 1905 with the vision of Paul Harris in Chicago. He formed Rotary so professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas, form meaningful, lifelong friendships, and give back to their communities. Rotary has clubs on six continents and in nearly every country.

Locally, the Marion Rotary Club was chartered in 1922, as club number 1051, with 23 members led by Fred Guthery, the first president. The Marion Rotary Club, along with the Marion Rotary Foundation, which was incorporated in 1959, has contributed to many organizations and scholarships over the years.
