Kenny Martin Charitable Fund
When Marion resident Kenny Martin passed in 2007, two new funds were subsequently created in his honor at Marion Community Foundation – a scholarship fund and a designated fund. These funds illustrate the unique person whom Kenny was, supporting a diversity of causes that were important to him.
Kenny was a long-time employee of the City of Marion, having worked for more than 40 years as an aide in the engineering office doing drafting and design; many considered him to be a artist in his work. He was known for his love of golf, trains, and auto racing.
As he had no family, Kenny named Marion Community Foundation as a substantial recipient of his estate. The Kenny Martin Charitable Fund provides annual grant support for a number of Kenny’s interests, including the Palace Cultural Arts Association and the Marion Union Station Association. Kenny was an avid model railroader.
His scholarship fund supports the educational pursuits of engineering students, while the charitable fund supports the Marion Palace Theatre and the Marion Union Station, among others. In addition, the Kenny Martin Charitable Fund has an unrestricted component which allows Marion Community Foundation’s Board of Directors to select a grant recipient based on pressing community’ needs.
