John & Penelope Green Funds

Penelope Green created two charitable funds with Marion Community Foundation in 2023 — the John & Penelope Green Fund and the John & Penelope Green MTC Fund.

The first is a legacy fund and field of interest fund supporting programs and organizations that benefit the underserved and disadvantaged youth in Marion.

The second is a designated fund Penelope created in memory of her deceased husband. Also a legacy fund, it benefits Marion Technical College.

John Henry Green was born in Crawford County in 1933. He graduated from the former Whetstone High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957 in Japan. John married Penelope in Bucyrus on October 7, 1962. He farmed in Marion County for 50+ years and retired from farming in 2009. He was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church in Bucyrus.
