Joe & Peggy Casey Scholarship Fund
The Joe & Peggy Casey Memorial Scholarship Fund was created in 2015 by the couple’s son, Joseph H. Casey, Jr., from donations which began in 2011.
Natives of New Jersey, the Caseys married in 1943. They moved to Marion in 1948 following Joe’s service in the Army. He was a 1st Lieutenant in the Pacific Region from 1942-46, with stations in Philippines, Okinawa, and Japan. He received honors and commemoration for Liberation of Philippines in 1945.
The couple settled in Marion and made it their family home for more than 60 years. Joe and Peggy had 7 children, 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. As parents, they were strong advocates for education, sports, music, dance, theater, travel, and fitness.
Long time members of St Mary Church, they were active in their support of St Mary School, Marion Catholic High School, the Knights of Columbus, American Cancer Society, and Marion General TWIGS. They enjoyed golf and tennis at the Marion Country Club.
Joe and Peggy ran a successful in fashion merchandise business for more than 50 years, serving 25 states throughout the Midwest. Joe passed in 2003 and Peggy in 2012.
