Janet Palm Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Janet Palm Memorial Scholarship Fund was created in 2020 by her husband, Michael Palm, to honor her career and support Harding High School students pursuing a degree in education.
The late Janet M. Palm (1937-2020) was originally from West Virginia. Loved by staff and classmates alike, she developed her passion for education and learning while attending Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, where she would meet her future husband, Michael. Together, they would share her life-long love of travel, camping and reading.
Married in 1955, they started their careers in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, and moved to Marion in 1959. Michael took an engineering position at Marion Power Shovel and Janet took time off to start their family.
Janet was active with the children’s schools, serving as PTA President for their elementary school. Eventually, she completed an education degree from The Ohio State University, obtained a teaching certificate, and taught in the Marion City Schools for eight years. There, she was able to share her love of books and story-telling by specializing in reading education.
She was active in the community, most notably donating her time and expertise for 20 years with the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program in Marion.
