Gregory A. Rees Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Gregory A. Rees Memorial Scholarship Fund is an example of how philanthropy is used to memorialize a lost loved one and to perpetuate a namesake. The Rees Scholarship, begun by his parents, Dick and Ellen Rees, family, and friends in 2008 to honor their son and brother, makes annual scholarship awards to seniors from Marion Harding High School, University High School in West Virginia, and students attending Franciscan University of Steubenville.
Gregory was a 1977 graduate of Marion Harding High School and attended The Ohio State University. He was employed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and was a member of St. Mary Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Recipients of the Rees Scholarship must be ranked in the top 25 percent of their graduating class. Selections are made based on applicants’ academic achievement and potential.
